3 Stinky Thoughts that are Holding You Back

Our thoughts and beliefs play a huge part in how we feel and the actions we take each day.

Do you see yourself in any of these types of thoughts?

Awareness is the first step to making a change!

1. It's too hard.

I have caught myself in this belief.

  • I've had 5 full-term pregnancies.

  • I am 42 years old.

  • I have a few more pounds of the baby weight to lose, and it feels like it's taking a LONG time.

Until I did some work around my thoughts, I didn't realize that I was believing that losing that last weight was "too hard" for me at this point in my life.

When I label something as "too hard", I often talk myself out of taking simple action steps toward my goal like eating a healthy snack or making sure my workout happens.

I was defeating myself without even realizing it.

I switched my thought to "Losing weight is NOT hard."

It may sound too easy, but that simple switch is making a huge impact on my actions!

2. I'm going to fail again.

It's easy to start thinking this way if you have tried and "failed" multiple times. It's true that you don't want to keep banging your head against the wall doing exactly the same thing.

However, what if you:

  • Made the steps toward your goal more manageable?

  • Enlisted the help of a professional this time?

  • Had someone on your side to encourage you when things started feeling tough?

  • Could feel NO fear or pessimism toward your wellness goal? What would be possible then?

3. I don't have the time.

Is this really, totally true?

Do you have 5-15 minutes to devote to your goal each day?

We often grossly overestimate the time and effort that a task or action will take. (I dare you to pull out a timer and test this one out yourself! How long does it take you to do the chore you hate, like the dishes or laundry?)

If you did devote even a small amount of time each day toward exercise or making a healthy meal, where will you be when summer rolls around?

If you don't set aside some time, where will you be?

I sincerely hope I am not stepping on your toes here, but I did want to to challenge you to see if you are using any of the above "stinky" thoughts to unwittingly hold yourself back from making the beautiful progress you deserve.
